The goal, the motivation, the team

Our Team Setting up the Halloween Scene!

After cutting and clearing the overgrowth at the Old Nixon House site, our team set up a halloween photo scene so that children and youths would have something covid safe to do instead of trick o' treating and partying! Hopefully next year we'll be able to hold an event that doesn't exclude two of the best parts of the season!

As a part of our Fruit Factor Project, members of the group fostered some apples trees while we get the orchard site ready for planting, and we would like to say a massive THANK YOU!

Who are we? What is our purpose?

We are a youth group, run by youths and for youths. We aim to engage, inspire and capture the voice of the young people in the Ynysowen region. We want to use this voice to support the development plan of "Invest Local Ynysowen" and to redevelop a community led youth service, that is inclusive, adaptive, and relevant for this and future generation’s needs.

Why?

We believe that youth services have been lacking in the area for some time now. The things we do have are amazing, but we think that we, the community, can do better. The main goal is to provide more for older youths, not just entertainment but also opportunities to learn useful skills in a range of fields. We aim to do this through regeneration. The amount of derelict buildings dampens our community spirit, and The Youth Factor believes that strengthening community spirit should be at the heart of any effort to improve the lives of the people within the community.

When we see a problem that needs to be fixed, we like to ask ourselves 'Has anything been done to fix this? If Not, Why Not?', because we agree that if something good can be done it should be done, and we refuse to accept excuses

Youth Services

Develop trusted, and widely used, community led youth services in the region.

Mapping

Map existing provision for young people in the region to make it easier to find

Creating Opportunities

Develop a skills-based program for youth – informal and formal based education opportunities

Encourage Volunteering

Develop a volunteer reward scheme that works for the young people – explore time-banking (and alternate models) working in other areas

Encourage Creative Thinking

Provide a safe environment for young people to express ideas and opinions

Sustainability

Explore sustainability of youth provision through (but not limited to) youth led social enterprise, training, service delivery.

The Team

Meet the wonderful volunteers who make it all happen. We see big potential in every moment and care deeply about what we do every day. Our team is constantly expanding, and everyone is welcome and encouraged to join. Our team is made up of people with different strengths and backgrounds which we believe makes us a more effective unit!
